How to Make an American Flag Easy No-Sew Banner

I love the 4th of July! To celebrate I made this vintage American Mantel, an American Flag collage, and an American Flag Banner.

This banner took me about 10 minutes to make and was very inexpensive. I got lucky and found all of the flags at a thrift store. But they all can be found here on Amazon. The middle is 12″x18″ (found here), the two sides are 8″x12″ (found here) and the smallest is 4″x6″ (found here).

First, get navy colored yarn (you could use red or white as well). Next find the center and glue the biggest flag to the string.

I just ran a cool glue gun down the very top twice (made two rows). I laid the string down and then folded the string into the material of the flag (using as little material as possible).

I spaced the flags about 2 1/2 inches apart. Then I got out the ironing board and ironed them on a cooler setting.

Finally, I centered the banner on my makeshift mantel and taped the yarn to the sides. I forgot to trim the extra yarn before taking the photo but I have done that now.

And that’s it! Easy No-Sew and super fast American Flag Banner!

IMPORTANT NOTE: The first time I did this craft I hung the flags wrong. I didn’t think to research which way to hang it because I thought I knew. It is a bit counter intuitive because the seams of the flags will face forward. The stars should always be on the left side. Thanks to my reader for commenting below.

Luckily the banner was/is reversible so it was an easy fix!

Supplies Needed:

navy colored yarn
cool glue gun  and glue sticks
One  12″x18″ (found here) American Flag,
Two  8″x12″ (found here),
and two 4″x6″ (found here).

Lovely, but in the pix the flags are displayed BACKWARDS! Unless draped on a coffin, the blue field of stars should ALWAYS be in the top left corner, no matter if the flag is vertical or horizontal! <3

Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. I had to roll my eyes that I didn't KNOW this! I will flip it around (its reversible and reupload photos).
