Yesterday while getting my hair done, I couldn’t help but overhear a few conversations about money. They had to do with stress about money and people who were struggling financially. It seems to be a common theme that I can’t help overhearing when I’m out and about in public places.
People are generally worried about money. Many live paycheck to paycheck. Living this way is stressful. I know it is because I used to live like this.
Unfortunately for America, being financially stressed is more the norm than financial peace. In fact,
- Over 70% of Americans are financially stressed;
- 80% of people admit that their personal finances keep them awake at night;
- 21% of couples who rate their financial stress as at least “somewhat high” are arguing more.
The sad truth is people are stressed about money. If your finances are worrying you, you can and should do something about it. I know by taking steps towards financial confidence, you will feel more in control and less stressed!
I mentioned that years ago my family was in a sad financial boat. We were living paycheck to paycheck and accumulating debt. I didn’t have money set aside for emergencies and was generally very stressed about money. I decided to change by setting a financial plan into action—and I’ve stuck with it.
For five years now, we have lived below our income and I’ve put savings aside. I”ve even been able to check off a few bucket list items! When I met my financial goals for 2015, I went Dog Sledding and Northern Lights Viewing in Alaska!
Life is so much more enjoyable when you have a savings as a buffer for emergencies, when you have no credit card debt, and when you can enjoy some fun spending because you have saved for it.
I feel very blessed and have so much more peace knowing I’m not just getting by. I honestly wish for everyone to be able to enjoy a financially confident lifestyle.
