Today our elf siblings are bungy jumping.
They have their harnesses
and ankle safety on and have taken the leap off of our living room chandelier.
My four and six year old had no idea what they were doing and their older siblings were at their dad’s house this morning.
So, I asked them do you know what bungy jumping is? They said no.
I showed them a video of a place where I went bungy jumping—Nevis aka AJ Hackett Bungy Jump. It was the highest bungy jump in the world when I lived in New Zealand at age 19.
I showed my kids the video and they asked to see it four times and wanted to keep re-watching it but they needed to get ready for school.
This bungy at Nevis is off of a cable car suspended between two mountains. There is an 8.5 second free fall and the rebound jump is about 3-4 seconds (which is a typical bungee jump).
These were the days before digital cameras but my friend got one with my film camera.
Now, after seeing the video, my photo, and our elves, my kids are obsessed with bungy jumping!
My six year old asked me if she could go off the bungy jump when she is 19 and I said that she could.
I explained that Pepper and Winter Mint (siblings) are holding their hands like they are diving because when you jump off of really high bungees you have to dive head first or there is a possibility of risk to the neck.
I remember being so scared but the instructor said do not look down! Look at that mountain top, put your arms above your head and dive. He counted down from 5-4-3-2-1. I stood there paralyzed. He counted again 5-4-3-2-1 and I just dove….What a rush!
Thanks for the fun memories Winter and Pepper… until tomorrow!
Thanks, Pepper and Winter Mint!
P.S. My husband thought they were being tortured hanging upside down that made me laugh so hard. Once you see it you cant really unsee it. …Luckily, my little kids didn’t hear him.
