My mom had a lot going on with 5 kids and a household to run. She made family dinners almost every night. As a mom I’ve come to admire and appreciate her consistency and diligence even more!

When it came to making homemade meals she tried to keep things simple. We grew up loving this garlic bread recipe. It is super simple and yet is not overly garlicky or buttery like so many pre-made store versions are.

So although this is a very simple and easy recipe, it is so worth making if you find the pre-made garlic bread loaves to be too rich and buttery for your taste.

Quick Directions

Preheat Oven to 350°F.

Take 1/2 Cup salted butter and microwave it in a bowl for 30-60 seconds (until it is pretty much melted). Then Stir in 1/4 HEAPING teaspoon garlic powder (or for more exact measurements 1/4 and 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder). Do a quick taste test and add more garlic if desired.

While the butter is microwaving, take a loaf of french bread, baguette, or Italian bread (whatever you prefer). Slice into slices about 1 inch thick (not cutting all the way through, this makes the loaf easier to work with). I prefer to use an electric bread knife, I can slice a whole loaf in under a minute. If you don’t have an electric bread knife make sure to use a serrated knife to make the cutting easier.

Spread on the melted butter on each side of the slices. If you don’t have a pastry brush, a small spatula will work as well.

Wrap with tin foil and put in preheated oven for about 10 minutes. If you like your garlic bread crispy leave in for about 13 minutes, open tin foil and bake for another 3-5 minutes.
