Everyone in my family loves watermelon! We are constantly eating it in the spring and summer time. Although I don’t love the drippy mess all over the kitchen floors, clothes, and faces, watermelon is totally worth it. In an effort to cut down on the mess and make eating watermelon a bit easier on us, I started cutting it like this…
I cut it traditionally (into quarters) and then into slices and half those slices. Then I trim off both edges being careful to just trim the rind off and not the fruit. I leave a little rind at the bottom like so:
Cut this way, you have a bit of rind to hold on to and yet the watermelon is more readily accessible because there are corners to nibble on. When cut this way, people eat around the edges first and that keeps the watermelon from getting as messy. Plus, it keeps kids from wasting the fruit. Cut traditionally, the rind can get in the way of consuming all the fruit. This way its a win win. Adults like to eat watermelon in this manner too (at least the ones I’ve cut it for this way). I hope you have enjoyed this quick tip. Have any of you found a great way to cut watermelon?
