Last week my daughter turned 11 and I threw her a Bubblegum Party at the ‘Candy Escape Room’.

Her name is Aurora but she also goes by, ‘Bubblegum’, or at least that is what she went by as a baby to an older toddler.

She mainly goes by Aurora but at random we’ll still call her, ‘Bubblegum’.

Her nickname was created when I announced she was a girl to her dad. He was out of town when I went to get the ultrasound. Before he got back, I stacked the bottom of a gum ball machine with pink gum balls and then told him to turn it to see if we were having a boy or a girl.

…out rolled a pink bubblegum ball and he went wild. We were both so excited.

So, for her birthday I bought her this pink gumball machine and designed her a cute keychain, and a carry bag with her nickname on it.

In the card I wrote to her, I told her how much her names fit her personality. Aurora, meaning the dawn or light (she is the light of my and many others lives), and Bubblegum meaning happy, bubbly, fun, and sweet (she is the best at loving and caring for people and animals). She is such a blessing in my life!!

Ever since she was 6 years old, she has been obsessed with the show, Just Add Magic. I threw her a Just Add Magic birthday party a few years ago.

Just Add Magic Birthday Party

In the show, the girls go to an Escape room.

If you aren’t familiar, an escape room is room full of riddles and clues.

In order to get out, you have to solve the puzzles as quickly as you can. You race a clock.

Aurora has LOVED escape rooms since seeing the girls go to one in Just Add Magic. While she’s been to a few I’ve never been to one.

When we booked the party, the rules stated that an adult needed to be there.

I was excited that I’d get to come along and play too.

We went to Escape Date in Pleasant Grove, UT. The ticket price, reviews, and experience all fit what we wanted to do.

I made her bring along our mascot for the night, the Pink Bubblegum Machine!

She kind of rolled her eyes at me but went along with it and I think it made for really cute photos!

Once we got in the Sweet Escape Room, the fun guide we had started a 60 minute clock and gave us a clue to begin.

We had to solve various puzzles, jokes, mysteries, and find the secret recipe. The recipe was found by matching all of the ingredients with their measurements.

For the most part, I was a supporting actor and just stepped in when needed, but I had a blast!

It really was so much fun.

The girls were actively engaged and excited the entire time.

I was always trying to solve the mysteries a step ahead in my mind, just in case I needed to help at any time, which I did once in awhile.

The ironic part is that it was the giant bubblegum machine that we, in the end, got help with.

The buttons on the machine were a scramble of song segments from “The Candy Man”. We had to put them together to get the clue out but four or five of the buttons were the intro and outro and the singer was just talking.

The girls moved on while I worked on it. I almost had it. I just had to figure out the last button order when our amazing guide came in with the key. With two more minutes, we could have completed the room ourselves entirely. Ohh well.

With the recipe mystery complete and 3 minutes to spare, we were given our Deeds to the secret candy recipe.

Then we headed on over to Iceberg and got shakes and had some cookie cake.

The girls got a sugar rush.

On the ride home, I was wishing I had taken my noise cancelling air pods! They were so cute though.

When we dropped off each girl off, Aurora gave them each a bow party bag.

My daughter is obsessed with pink bows (most girls are these days).

When I designed her bday invite I added a pink bow to the bubblegum machine.

So we made sure it had a bow for the party to match the invitation and the favor boxes.

Inside was a squishy bubblegum machine, bubbletape (unopened when we gifted it—my kids got to this one haha), and gum balls.

The cutest part about these gum balls is that they are Dippin’ Dots and have tiny mini edible balls inside the gum ball!!

Happy Birthday to my sweet, bubbly and kind Aurora—aka Bubblegum. I love you!
