‘Road trippin’ with my two favorite allies
Fully loaded we got snacks and supplies
It’s time to leave this town, it’s time to steal away
Let’s go get lost anywhere in the “UK”
Let’s go get lost, let’s go get lost‘
— Road Trippin’ Sung by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Our elves, Pepper and Winter, went ‘Road Trippin’ today.
When my kids found them, they were hiding behind our couch in a remote controlled Barbie car.
My kids had a BLAST taking turns driving them around the house. See the video on this page for just a snippet of the fun they had … and the fun lasted until it was time to go to bed. The elves abandoned their car for another activity last night.
I think the elves may have heard Amelia complaining about our Elf on the Shelf: Two Turtle Doves scene when she said, “Last year they did fun stuff and today is not that fun”.
Well this Road Trippin’ scene about topped them all (fun-wise for the kids that is).
Not only did the kids get to interact with the elves remote controlled car, it was such a fun scene for me…
I loved it because it reminded me of the best road trip of my life. The one Shane, my husband, and I took around Scotland and England for a week in May 2025.
I am not over exaggerating when I say that trip (we also went to Norway and Belgium for another week) was the best trip of my life.
Shane is hilarious! He can and does always make me laugh.
Pepper is wearing a hat that reminded me of our roadtrip.
Toward the beginning of the trip Shane tried on different English and Scottish hats. A Sherlock hat.
And his favorite for everyday wear, was a tweed flat cap. Every time I looked over at him in his flat cap, almost without exception, I either smiled or laughed. “These smiling eyes are just a mirror for…”
Below he is joking about being an old crotchety British driver.
Like Pepper and Winter, we had a small car which was great for the tight roads and the frequent roundabouts!
I drove until Shane and I both realized that he preferred to speed the roundabouts and tight streets while I preferred to stare and photograph the gorgeous scenery.
At one time, like in the song, we did get lost—in the UK… in the Cotswolds to be exact.
My phone dropped signal and a kind English lady who lived in this mansion (I stole a photo of her gorgeous home), let me log into her Wifi so I could get some directions and we could find our way out.
The countryside was incredible! Shane wanted me to plan the entire itinerary and see whatever I wanted to see… and so we got to go to: the Hills of Aberfeldy (thank you Ed Sheeran for that tip); two of the most famous “Mr. Darcy mansions”; the C.S. Lewis house; the James Alfred Wight Vet Clinic (my favorite vet and author of my all-time favorite book series, All Creatures Great and Small); the Edinburgh castle; and so. much. more. Each day was packed and Shane was happy to drive me around to see it all.
Another detail from this Elf on the Shelf: Road Trippin’ scene that reminded me of our roadtrip in May was that Pepper Mint (our boy elf) was holding sub sandwiches.
Near London, we got stuck in an hour and a half long traffic jam. It was so bad that I was able to get out of the car, open the boot, and make us sandwiches—all the while the car hadn’t moved an inch.
I just loved those little details.
