Valentine’s Heart Crumbl Copycat Sugar Cookies Recipe

Copycat Crumbl Sugar Cookies Recipe

These Crumbl copycat sugar cookies are even better than what you’d buy at the popular Crumbl cookie shop (my opinion of course).

I love the balance of flavor and very light hint of almond extract in the crust instead of the original Crumbl cookie’s strong Almond flavored icing.

Putting the almond extract in the dough vs. the frosting was a hit in my family. We don’t love the strong almond flavor in the Crumbl sugar cookie icing.

Putting the almond extract in the dough gives the dough an interesting depth of flavor but does not overpower the traditional sugar cookie taste as I believe the Crumbl cookie frosting does.

However, if you aren’t like my family and you like the almond-flavor frosting, you can add the almond extract into the frosting recipe as well (I mention how to do this below).

Crumbl is popular because they use real ingredients. No hydrogenated oils, etc. so they are quite tasty. This sugar cookie recipe also uses whole ingredients but are much more economical.

One cookie at Crumbl cost over $2.00 each. These average out to around .50 cents each and are also very large and filling.

Rolled out and cut with a large heart shaped cookie cutter, they make the perfect Valentine’s Day cookie.

Frosting with my BEST Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting Recipe found here. You may want to add a little pink food coloring to this recipe.

Note- If you want a more authentic Crumbl almond-flavored frosting you simply add 1 Tablespoons of Almond extract INSTEAD of the vanilla bean AND also add 2 teaspoons of Vanilla extract that this frosting recipe calls for.

Directions on how to make Valentine’s Heart Crumbl Copycat Sugar Cookies Recipe

1- Preheat the oven to 350°F

2- Mix together butter and sugar on medium high speed until fluffy.

3- Add the eggs one at a time, beat for 1 minute in after each egg is added.

4- In a separate large mixing bowl, whisk the dry ingredients together.

5- With the mixer on low speed add the dry ingredients about 1/4 Cup at a time until no dry flour is visible. Scrape the edges of the mixing bowl as necessary.

6- Place dough in a ball and wrap with plastic wrap and chill for 15 minutes in the freezer or at least 1 hour to overnight in the fridge.

7- Keep dough the you are not currently rolling and cutting cold in the fridge.

8- Roll out the dough on parchment paper using sugar instead of flour to keep the rolling pin from sticking to the dough. Make sure the cookie dough is 1/4-1/2″ thick. This, and proper baking time makes the cookie chewy.

9- Cut out the heart-shaped cookies and peel away the excess. Make sure the cookies are at least an inch away from each other on the parchment paper or silicone baking mat—both will work to bake them on.

10-Bake for 8-11 minutes in preheated oven. Check at 8 minutes and take them out as soon as you see a puffy center that looks cooked through. You don’t want the edges to brown at all.

11- Remove from oven and allow to cool while on baking sheet. Frost them using this recipe.

Why Heart Shaped?

You can definetly roll these into a ball and press them down to form a round Crumbl cookie look-alike but I prefer the heart shape for Valentine’s Day and for sentimental reasons.

Growing up, my mom would always buy or make us a large heart sugar cookie every Valentine’s Day.

I’ve passed that tradition on and do this for my children as well.

It’s a fun to celebrate the love you have for your children and is an easy inexpensive tradition.

My parents are still doing this. They actually made a few batches of these cookies for their kids and grandkids this weekend… they didn’t last long!

Everyone loved them!

As mentioned, I like them even more than the cookie they we are copy-catting.  I hope you do too!
