Neighbor Christmas Gift: Mini Cake.
A few of my neighbors gift me mini cakes each year and I love it!
They are so delicious, are just the right size to eat oneself or let others sample, and are cute.
I bought this silicone mold with miniature houses during an after-Christmas sale
and I have used it to make a little Christmas village cake.
I am always trying to create classy neighbor gifts for under $2.00 (see many I have posted here) and I knew this could be one of them.
I thought that perhaps a miniature cake in a clear container with a bow on top would make a very beautiful neighbor’s gift.
It turns out that they do.
I love using a darker cake like a red velvet, chocolate, or gingerbread cake coupled with a white frosting to represent a house with snow.
The frosting/snow pops against the darker cake and makes a nice contrast of colors.
It’s even more fun to sprinkle a dusting of powdered sugar over the top of the frosting to represent freshly fallen snow.

Supplies for this Neighbor Christmas Gift: Mini Cake
Ingredients to make your favorite cake. Here is a great vanilla cake recipe. I’ll be posting my red velvet cake recipe, my chocolate cake recipe, and my cookies and cream cake recipes soon.
Alternatively, you can use box cake mixes as well.
Ingredients for the frosting to frost the cake. This is the best buttercream frosting and the best cream cheese frosting.
Little cake gingerbread molds. This silicone mold does great!
Cake pan/baking sheet to set the mold on while it bakes
Plastic containers to put the cake in
scissors
mini burgundy 1-inch mini bows Christmas wrapping bows
Optional- Powder sugar and sieve for dusting, alternatively you can just sprinkle the powdered sugar with your fingertips.

Directions on how to assemble this Neighbor Christmas Gift: Cake

1- Make the cake batter of your choice. I recommend a dark batter such as red velvet, gingerbread, or chocolate so that it stands out against the white frosting.
2- Make the frosting of your choice. I recommend a white frosting such as this vanilla buttercream or this cream cheese frosting.
3- Allow the cake to cool completely. Take it out of its mold.
4- In the bottom of the plastic container, pipe frosting to look like freshly fallen snow this frosting will also help so the cake doesn’t move around.
5- Place a cake house into the center of the container. Pipe frosting on its roof.
6- Sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar to look like freshly fallen snow.
7- Close the container.
8- Place a 1-inch mini bow on top. I think that if you use red velvet cake, burgundy looks nice as it tends to match the cake.
