I love decorating tablescapes for kids.

Yesterday, I hosted my husband’s family of almost 40 people for our annual family Christmas party.

I wanted to set up a boy’s gingerbread themed table and a girl’s gingerbread themed table. I’ll post the girl’s gingerbread tablescape soon.

The activities I had for the kids after dinner were: decorating mini gingerbread houses, decorating foam gingerbread men, and a dig kit with a gingerbread house inside it. The adults did white elephants.

I started by covering a 6′ folding table with brown craft paper and by running a red and white stripe paper runner down the center.

The centerpiece of the table was a large gingerbread house from Costco on a cake stand with red and white ribbon tied around the base of the cake stand.

I knew that my littler ones would make a mess of the large house, so they got mini houses to decorate while my older daughter and I decorated the two large centerpieces—one for each table.

My daughter, Aurora is very artistic.

I told her that I wanted to try and match this mini gingerbread house below.

She did a fantastic job.

I was so fun to put on Christmas music and decorate gingerbread houses together just us.

My kids got to decorate twice in a row. At the party all of the kids got to decorate their own mini Oreo houses.

We filled candy cups for each child about 1/3 full with sprinkles to decorate their gingerbread houses with; the Oreo kits that I purchased didn’t have a lot of variety.

I also put gumdrops in a candy cup for decorating.

M&M’s in glass trees.

Gingerbread cookies to use or eat if they wanted to in gingerbread themed candy dishes.

My sister-in-law adored these glass candy dish ornaments so much, I gave the three of them to her for a party she is soon hosting.

Plus, there were green and red gum balls to bring in a pop of green and red and for fun.

My favorite items on the table were these gingerbread-themed nutcrackers.

I just could not get over how cute they were when I saw them.

I love how the man’s outfit matched the glass gingerbread houses I have set out on the table.

Their boots match the peppermint candy napkins on the table.

My kids and I set the table with gingerbread house dinner plates and gingerbread men dessert plates.

I loved the different napkins that I bought and I couldn’t decide which to use…

I figured that little kids always need more napkins (especially when decorating gingerbread houses), so I put 2-3 napkins at each setting.

We also set out clear crystal cups and clear forks from Costco.

And to finish it off we tied candy canes onto each chair.

and put a little gingerbread box on everyone’s seat with favors inside.

I hung a gingerbread house banner behind the table on the banister with the garland.

I thought it along with the faux pine garland with red cranberries made a cute backdrop.

It was so much fun!

If I were to do it over though… I’d buy small pre-made gingerbread houses because those Oreo ones were kind of a pain to put together! They worked, but that is what I’d do differently if I were to throw another gingerbread party.

We had a great time and it was fun to celebrate Christmas together with the Pulsipher family.

Merry Christmas!
