Saint Patrick’s Mantel Decor

When I went to Ireland with my grandfather, parents, and a friend we got to see Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. We learned that Saint Patrick was a kidnapped from England and brought into slavery in Ireland. It is said that one night he had a dream how to escape and he narrowly escaped.

When back in his motherland, he became a cleric and years later he returned to Ireland as a missionary.

He is credited as bringing Christianity to Ireland and became a bishop there. He is reported to have used the Shamrock for teaching about the Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Anyone who spends their life spreading the Word of God and teaching about Christ is to be celebrated in my book!

In Ireland St. Patrick’s Day is a religious holiday. This year I added a framed image of St. Patrick on our mantel and will teach my children that it is also a holiday to celebrate Christianity and missionary work.

I like the tradition of wearing green. Ireland is called the, “The Emerald Isle” and that is a very fitting name.

Ireland had so many shades of green in its landscape, I was awestruck at its beauty and variety!

I’ve attached some photos of a travel pages in a book that I made for my grandfather.

When decorating my mantel this year I ordered a photo of a St. Patrick and some 3 leaf clovers and framed them in white matted frames.

Last year my daughter and I made these clover plushies. Tutorial can be found here.

I hung a beaded garland across the mantel and using a needle and thread attached three to it (one on both ends and one in the middle). We had two more squishies left so I put one near each frame.

I bought three clover wreaths and put one in the middle and both ends.

That’s it. It took me about 15 minutes to make and was not expensive to do.
