This is one of my favorite hamburgers. It is delicious. This recipe really is so good, it rivals and even often surpasses the recipes I have had of Swiss mushroom burgers at restaurants and drive-ins.

The combination of onion, Swiss cheese, mushrooms and garlic on a freshly grilled hamburger patty is really very satisfying.

Read on for my Swiss Mushroom Hamburger Recipe and video.

Directions on how to make this Swiss Mushroom Hamburger Recipe

  1. Cook hamburger patty on a grill at medium heat.
  2. On a stovetop in a skillet sauté onions, mushrooms, salt, pepper, and minced garlic on medium-high heat.
  3. Once the onions have sweat, push ingredients into a pile (about the size of a hamburger patty) and top it with a slice of Swiss cheese.
  4. Allow the cheese to melt slightly and scoop the topping mixture onto a spatula (leaving cheese on top of mixture).
  5. Place Swiss mushroom topping mixture on to a cooked patty while it is still on the grill.  Shut grill lid and cook patty until the cheese has fully melted. Optional: If you love Swiss cheese, you could add another slice of cheese at this point and close the lid to allow the grill to melt it.
  6. Remove patty and place it on a prepared bun with desired toppings.

Movie/Demonstration on how to make this Swiss Mushroom Hamburger Recipe

I prefer to eat Swiss Mushroom Hamburgers topped with mayo and lettuce.

When I make this recipe, I find that it is easiest if my husband grills the patties while I am cooking the Swiss mushroom mixture on the stove top. If he starts the burgers at the same time that I start the sauté they usually are ready at the same time.

Also, make sure to double, triple, quadruple, etc. this recipe for how many burgers you are making.

If you give this Swiss Mushroom Hamburger recipe a whirl, let me know how you like it in the recipe card or comments below.

Enjoy!
