This Tomato Alfredo Italian Baked Ziti Recipe is my husband’s favorite meal.

My husband would eat this every week if I made it that often. Our 2 year old, 6 year old and 8 year old all love it as well!

It is crazy how quickly this recipe disappears around our house. My husband has gone so far as to say I should sell it pre-packaged to stores and the like. However, I have made it into freezer meals for our family and it is quite a bit better served fresh. The Alfredo sauce doesn’t freeze very well. Although still delicious frozen, thawed, and cooked, it tastes a lot better freshly made.

I’ve made it for family and friends and they’ve all really liked it as well.

My sister has been waiting for awhile for me to post this recipe on my blog. Her husband requested it when I made it for their family many months years ago. So here you go sis, sorry it took so long…

Tomato Alfredo Baked Ziti Recipe Supply List

Large pot for boiling ziti noodles

large capacity strainer

2 large and deep sauté pans

whisk

spatula

small spatula  I was using the Blendtec spatula that came with my blender in the video

9×13 glass baking dish or 2- 8×8 baking dishes

aluminum foil

Directions on how to make Tomato Alfredo Baked Ziti Recipe

To make this recipe more quickly, I make the Alfredo sauce, brown the beef, and boil the noodles at the same time…

  1. Start a large pot with 8 Cups or more of water boiling. Add 1- 16 oz package of ziti noodles. Boil stirring now and then to make sure they don’t stick to the bottom. Helpful tip, spray cooking spray on the top of boiling water to prevent it from boiling over the rim of the pot.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  3. On Medium heat melt butter in a sauce pan and add pepper, onion powder and garlic.
  4. Whisk heavy whipping cream and parmesan cheese into the butter. Using a whisk, stir often until cheese is fully melted.
  5. Taste test the homemade Alfredo sauce and add additional amounts of spices as desired.
  6. Cook ground beef on medium high heat. Drain off oil if desired. Add garlic, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Place cooked and strained noodles in the bottom of a 9×13 pan or 2- 8×8 pans.
  8. Pour Alfredo sauce onto the noodles and stir them in well.
  9. Distribute the ground beef evenly over the noodles.
  10. Pour the tomato sauce on top of the ground beef.
  11. Sprinkle top with parmesan cheese
  12. Bake for 30 minutes with a tin foil tent.
  13. Remove and serve. Refrigerate leftovers.

Tomato Alfredo Baked Ziti Ingredient List

*Homemade Alfredo- Optional ideas below…

4 teaspoons Minced Garlic

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 1/2 Cups heavy whipping cream

4 Cups shredded parmesan cheese ( additional 1/4 C for garnish if desired)

1/2 C butter

Ground Beef

1 pound ground beef

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons minced garlic

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Noodles

16 oz package of ziti noodles

Pasta Sauce

32 oz Classico tomato pasta sauce

Homemade Alfredo optional substitutions- to make this recipe faster you can substitute the homemade Alfredo with the sauce of 2- 15 oz Bertolli Alfredo Pasta Sauce. Or our personal favorite is to half this homemade Alfredo recipe and mix in 1- 15 oz Bertolli Alfredo Pasta Sauce until well mixed. We stumbled upon this combination when I didn’t have enough heavy whipping cream to make the whole recipe (just 1/2) so I used a jar of Alfredo sauce in addition and we loved the taste even more. So, more often than not, I make it like this.

I hope you enjoy this Tomato Alfredo Baked Ziti Recipe as much as we do!
