This is an AMAZING Delicious Homemade French Toast Recipe that I’ve been making for years. Recently, I volunteered to make it for my entire extended family and they all loved it. There are three tricks to make this unique recipe the best french toast ever.
The first is to use cinnamon swirl bread. I buy mine from the bakery at Smith’s/Kroger. If the bakery at your grocery store doesn’t make fresh cinnamon swirl bread, you could try this delicious looking recipe here. If not, just use regular Texas Toast or Challah bread but be sure to soak it well before cooking.
The second is to use a vanilla extract from Mexico (it really is the best).
The third tip is to stir the batter between dipping the slices of bread so that the flour and other ingredients rise to the top and coat the bread well.
Instructions:
Whisk milk into flour in a large mixing bowl. Whisk in the salt, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract (I like this Mexican brand most) and sugar until smooth.
Soak bread in custard, flip and soak the other side. Let excess custard drip off (so it doesn’t pool in the pan).
Use cooking spray or butter to grease a skillet or frying pan. Cook on medium heat until golden brown on each side.
Whisk or stir batter between dipping different slices.
Dip and cook each slice of bread until done. Keep toast warm in a heated oven~200F.
Serve hot and top with any of the following toppings: maple syrup, ice cream, butter, fruit, whipping cream, Nutella, or peanut butter.
