How to Make These Heart-Shaped Cream Cheese Berry Pastries

Continue reading and/or watch the video.

Preheat oven to 380°F

1- Mix cream cheese, vanilla, egg yolk, and lemon juice in a mixing bowl until smooth. Set aside.

2- Open Pillsbury pastry dough take 8 rectangles of pastry dough and stack 2 rectangles on top of each other.  You should have 4 rectangles of double-stacked pastry dough. If you are using a different pastry brand just make sure you have 4 rectangles of double stacked pastry dough. Cut out 4 long strips in each rectangle, making 16 strips of dough. Meet the ends of the strip of dough in the middle. Now you have new ends of folded dough, push these upwards so it resembles a heart. Please watch the video if this is a bit confusing.

3- Set them right side up on a cookie sheet (so you can see the layers of dough and the heart shape) on wax paper or a silicone baking mat.

4- Put about a TBSP of cream cheese mixture on the top of the heart in a heart-shaped pattern, avoid going to the edge.

5- Put about 1/2 TBSP blueberry pie filling and/or strawberry topping (diced strawberries mixed into strawberry jam) in a heart-shaped pattern on top of the cream cheese mix and try to avoid it from spilling over the edge.

6- Whisk the egg and water together to make an egg wash.

7- Using a pastry brush brush the edges of the pastry dough.

8- Bake for about 12-17 minutes. Watch them closely after 12 minutes and remove them when the edges are golden brown.

9- Remove them and allow them to cool a bit, if desired add more topping to each pastry
