The Best Homemade Dutch Apple Pie.
I have served this pie to about 20 different people and they have all said they really like or love it.
My grandpa grew up on apple pie as his family had an apple orchard. When he ate his first slice he asked for another serving and kept saying it was the best apple pie he has had.
It really is a delicious recipe and is the best homemade Dutch Apple Pie I have tasted as well.
I believe it tastes so good in part because of the homemade crust that is made with butter and not with shortening.
This crust buttery crust can hold up the heavy apples, the crumble that goes on the apples, as well as ice cream or whipping cream.
Amazingly, the crust can be made in 5-10 minutes. It should then be blind-baked for another 25 minutes. It only is made with 5 common ingredients and doesn’t need to be rolled out—you simple make it in the pie pan.
Of course, it’s not just the crust that makes this, ‘the best homemade Dutch Apple Pie’; the mixture of Granny Smith and Red apples is a great combination of sweet and tart, they are baked to perfection. The crust, apples, and sweet cinnamon brown sugar topping are a delicious marrying of flavors—especially with added ice cream.
What flavor of ice cream should be served with this Dutch apple pie?
Any creamy vanilla will do or my favorite, Häagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche Ice Cream makes a perfect pair. With this pairing, this pie becomes absolutely amazing!
How complicated is this Dutch Apple Pie?
This is a 3-part-pie, you can watch both videos (one for the crust and one for the pie) to see just how easy it is to make…
You’ll likely want to make the three parts in this order. You’ll make this quick 5 ingredient pie crust and get it baking. While it bakes, you can make the pie filling and set it to the side to allow the apples to sweat. While the apple slices sweat off excess moisture and the pie crust cools, you make the topping. Now you are ready to assemble all three parts together and put the pie in the oven.
How long does it take to make and bake?
The recipe will take about 50-60 minutes to make all three: the crust, filling and topping, and it will take another 50-60 minutes for the pie to bake. The time is well spent though! If you do this right, I can almost guarantee those who try it will love it.

- Preheat the oven to 375ºF.

- In a large mixing bowl mix together and using clean hands mix together the apple slices, flour, white and brown sugars, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Set the bowl to the side. You’ll want to give the apples at least 30 minutes to sweat off moisture so that your pie is not overly soggy.
