German-Ornament Christmas Tree

German-Ornament Christmas Tree

I lived in Germany for 18 months and now I love German Christmas decorations. Which is why I made this German-Ornament Christmas Tree.

This Christmas tree is inspired from Germany Christmas decor. In December in Germany, there are Weihnachtsmarkts (Christmas Markets) in the middle of each town.

Each Weihnachtsmarkt has booths and stands filled with Christmas decor, ornaments, goodies, and gifts.

I was able to visit a few different Weihnachtsmarkts and they were all amazing.

The markets looked like Christmas Wonderlands and smelled fantastic! Celebrating Christmas in Germany was one of my favorite Deutsch traditions!

Many of the ornaments sold at the markets were small, wood, and handmade. They are darling! I used ones I bought at the markets or have since bought that look just like the ones I saw at the markets on this tree.

To my surprise, I found very similar ornaments to mine that were made by German companies that are relatively inexpensive and I have linked them in this list below…

Vintage Ornaments (cheaper but not as authentic looking as the rest I’ve linked to)

When my grandma passed away 9 years ago, I was given her little mini Christmas tree. It is about 2.5′ tall which just makes it super cute!

I have been able to collect vintage or German style ornaments to decorate it with. They are fitting for this size of the tree because most of the German ornaments I have are small and petite as is this tree.

I love my late grandma and my time in Germany, so that makes this tree and its ornaments even more meaningful for me.

I have gone about collecting these ornaments in the past few years. To my surprise, many of them can be found on Amazon and most are very inexpensive too.

I also choose to decorate with a wood-beaded garland that is vintage-looking.

The ornaments pictured above and below are very German. Above there is a small little wooden angel on a moon, below, a Nutcracker, an angel playing the accordion (from a German Market), and a cuckoo clock.

Next, a wood tree ornament, wood bell, wood soldier, wood train, and a glass angel.

The wooden rocking horse is pretty and wooden nativity is precious.

I used a star from a craft store that was less than a dollar for the tree topper. While not completely “German”, it is close enough and I like the dainty understated look.

I used blue, gold, and red ornament 0.75″ balls.

A wood rocking horse and white standard Christmas tree lights also adorn the tree. This Santa ornament below is pretty cute!

Around the base of the tree, I added two Santa Clause statues. I think they are so darling.

This Santa is at his workbench.

I added a very vintage cross stitch Santa Clause tree-skirt a similar pattern can be found on Etsy (see supply list).

And to add even more of a German feel, I placed a German Christmas horse on a lamp stand off to the side of the tree.

I have adored having this mini German-ornament Christmas tree. It pairs nicely with my larger Santa-themed Christmas tree and Santa themed mantel.

The mini German-ornament Christmas Tree sits on a little side table next to our couch. I like sitting next to it and looking at the cute ornaments I have collected.

I love to find a few ornaments to add to it each year. This year when I set it up, I will be adding this set of ornaments to the tree—I can’t wait!

I hope this post helps you create a German-ornament Christmas Tree as well; they are super fun to have and add to!

Merry Christmas.

My parents made these just the way you described, dipped in wax and sprinkled with glitter. I learned how to make them years later.
