Red, White and Blue Firework Doormat.

Fourth of July Firework Front Door Decor

This tutorial and video will show how I made this doormat for under $10 in under 10 minutes. It was so fun to freehand and paint, was inexpensive and I absolutely love the way it came together.

All you need are the following supplies and since I had left over supplies from previous doormats I have made, my only out-of-pocket expense was this 18×30 blank doormat that I picked up from Joann’s Craft store for $8.00 (using a coupon).

Supply List for this Red, White, and Blue Firework Doormat

Exterior/Outdoor acrylic craft paint. The exact brand I used is called Craft Smart red, blue, black, and white. I mixed the blue with a little black and white to get a deeper more navy color.

chunky full bristle acrylic paint brushes

paper plate for paint

Krylon Clear Coating spray UV-resistant and moisture blocking

Coir outdoor mat. I used an 18″×30″ mat from JoAnn’s. With a coupon, it was only $8.00.

Instructions for how to put together this Red, White and Blue Firework Doormat.

Continue reading and/or watch the video tutorial on this page.

1- Gather the supplies.

2- Set out a photo, tulle, material or pattern to look at to pattern your doormat after. I used the pattern from a roll of tulle ribbon I had (JoAnn’s).

3- Using a chunky stencil type brush, freehand stars and their bursts in red, white, and blue paint. Use a good amount of paint so that it can sink down into the coir. Then, touch up any areas that need to be more heavily painted.

4- Allow the mat to dry (2 hours in the sun).

5- Optional- once the mat has been fully dried, spray it with Krylon Clear Coating spray UV-resistant and moisture blocking and allow that to dry for another hour or two before placing it where it could be stepped on.

That’s it. Like I mentioned, it only took me 7 minutes to make this doormat and it cost me under $10.00 which isn’t bad for a statement piece like this.
