I attended a party with about 60 people on the 4th of July. Among the many delicious potluck dishes, there was a very large bowl of Pico de Gallo. It was honestly the BEST homemade Pico de Gallo recipe I had ever tasted.
I asked around if anyone knew who made it. No one knew although many remarked on how much they loved it. After many attempts and fails to find the cook, I gave up.
Towards the end of the party, a guy was standing next to me and we started chatting. He asked how the party was going for me. I said it was good. He asked if I had met some fun people. I said, “Yes, but who I really want to meet is the person who made the best homemade pico de gallo recipe I have ever tasted!”. He smiled and enthusiastically replied, “I made it!”.
I was so happy to find him and asked if he’d mind sharing his recipe. He was more than happy to give it. Although he didn’t have an official recipe, he told me more or less how to make it; he also said I could share it.
After experimenting with different ingredient quantities, I was able to replicate his pico de gallo. It is delicious.
I have since made it for friends and family and they have commented on its tastiness too.
I’m so excited to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I and many others have too.
Please keep in mind that this is a very mild recipe. Feel free to spice it up with more jalapeno!
My personal favorite tortilla chip for this Pico De Gallo and my amazing Guacamole recipe are called Juanita’s Tortilla chips found at Smiths/Kroger.
6 Cups Ripe Tomatoes, diced
2 Cups yellow onion, diced
1 Tablespoon fresh jalapeno seeded and finely chopped (add more jalapeno based on spice preference) this is the amount for a mild Pico De Gallo
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Lime juice from 2 ripe limes
- Dice, chop, juice, and stir all ingredients into a bowl.
Serve chilled with tortilla chips.
