Elf on the Shelf: Baking Cake.
Our elves got to baking today.
Pepper Mint and Winter Mint made some cakes in little mini cake pans.
They sprinkled edible glitter in green on them as well.
My kids each got their own mini cake to eat.
Which, not surprisingly, was a bit hit.
My favorite was the tiny pans and measuring cups that they brought with them.
They had all different types of baking pans.
They brought a pan for Madelines, angel food cake, donuts, and bundt cakes.
They brought a heart-shaped cake pan,
A rectangular pan that Pepper is holding.
and a few others.
My daughter loved their outfits.
She commented on the fact that they looked like models.
She said, “Oh Mom look, Winter is wearing the apron that they were sewing in the Elf on the Shelf: Sewing scene.”
I commented that it was a good observation.
She probably forgot (I didn’t correct her) but Winter did wear this apron when she and Pepper made Christmas Cookies last year as well.
Pepper has had his chef hat for a few years now. He wore it for the first time in the Elf on the Shelf: Miniature Breakfast Scene.
I think it is smart that they reuse their clothing. I’m sure it makes it easier and faster for them to set up these scenes.
They got out butter, brown sugar, flour, salt, I think baking powder and toffee bits. Perhaps they were making chocolate toffee cake or something.
My youngest daughter liked hers, but my youngest son didn’t like his.
My two older kids have yet to eat their cakes but they asked me to hide them from the toddlers so that they could eat them when they return home from school.
My daughter is so observant of these scenes!
She sits in front of them for long amounts of time and often comments on the smallest of details.
Today she noticed that Winter got new shoes—they were just barely peeking out!
My kids’ reactions are worth the time, detail, and effort that Winter and Pepper put into these scenes.
The Supplies that I think our elves used for this scene, Elf on the Shelf: Baking Cake
Kitchen Aid mixer
Butter, brown sugar, flour, salt, I think baking powder and toffee bits.
Random human-size cake pans, cooking racks, muffin pans, cake pans, etc.
This Nordic Ware Gingerbread House Bundt Pan is noteworthy though. I’m so excited to bake with this pan as I got it in an after-Christmas sale last year and I’ve been waiting 11 months to use it!
Winter’s Chef hat with little embellishment was handmade with Christmas bakery fat quarter material, poly-fil, needle, thread pulled taut and knotted, hot glue, and a little button embellishment. It is secured on Winter’s head using floral wire.
The Christmas apron for Winter was just a cut of material attached with a decorative ribbon and hot glue.
Pepper’s apron (handmade) is just a piece of folded-over material attached on the back with hot glue
Pepper’s chef hat was made with white material, polyfill, needle, and thread pulled taut and knotted, hot glue, and then wire woven through to attach it to his head.

How I think our elves put together this scene, Elf on the Shelf: Baking Cake
They got out a bunch of my baking pans and bakeware and set them behind them and on the sides to ‘set the scene’.
They poured sugar, brown sugar, flour, etc. into measuring cups and spilled some intentionally.
They put on their freeze frames, aprons, and hats.
Using a cake we had delivered to us by neighbors they spooned it inside their mini baking pans and topped it with the frosting that came on the same cake that was already made.
They sprinkled some of the cakes with toffee bits and edible glitter.
This scene looked like it may have taken 30-40 minutes of prep work. Using a pre-made cake certainly sped up their time though.
Thanks, Winter and Pepper for this fun and edible Elf on the Shelf: Baking Cake scene!
