This Halloween my older kids really wanted to dress up in Harry Potter costumes.
At first, we were going to have Amelia (1 years old) be a mandrake, but we eventually decided that Hedwig the owl would be a better fit.
My son is almost 8 and looks quite a bit like Harry.
My daughter is almost 6 and she looks and sometimes acts quite a bit like Hermoine. So it was a really fun option for them to pick.
Amelia does not like to sit still for even a minute when she is awake! Getting a photo shoot of her was a challenge but my kids were extremely helpful. I had to use different tactics to keep her entertained, one was giving her a little sucker.
My daughter and I made the Hedwig costume and a DIY tutorial on how to make it here. It was very inexpensive and required no sewing.
We bought Harry’s wand, but Hermoine’s is handmade. Here is a quick tutorial on this, as well.
Harry just loved cuddling Hedwig which I thought was pretty cute!
Getting Harry, Hermoine, and Hedwig to look and smile at the same time was quite a struggle!
It was a fun Halloween and the kids loved casting spells and pretending to be the characters they were dressed up as.
Check out the posts about how to put together these costumes.
I hope you also had a wonderful Halloween!

trying to imagine amelia as a mandrake and i think she would’ve totally killed it with cuteness!! i’m a huge potterhead myself. your kids totally pulled off their costumes! (your son and daughter do resemble harry and hermione, respectively.)
